Who was Ta' Julián? The runaway who guides my spiritual path

Ta' Julián was an African slave brought to New Spain around 1600. He was assigned to the sugarcane plantations in Havana, where they tried to force him to live like a beast of burden. But he refused to accept this sentence. He was a runaway slave, as enslaved men and women who fled in search of freedom and dignity were called.

He didn't just escape: he inspired others to rebel and built a small free settlement in the mountains of Pinar del Río (a province in Cuba), where he lived as a free man. He was a strong, determined, and suspicious man, but with a brilliant intelligence and an immense ability to influence others. His spirit remains just that: free, wise, and rebellious.

Its spiritual origin and its strength

As I always say, this spirituality has presented itself to me just like I'm telling you today.

Ta' Julián was born in the Congo. Many have him in their spiritual cord, but not everyone has seen him with these characteristics. Since he was a child, he collected sticks in the forest and knew each one; he had vision, and he healed with his hands. He was a stocky, short black man, and when he comes down to Earth, he does so with intense gestures, a language that is not always understood, and an overwhelming energy.

He's a rough, reserved, distrustful, but very protective spirit. He loves his sons deeply, but with us women, he's especially paternal, and sometimes even marital. No man would make a daughter of Ta' Julian suffer, because he'll make them pay for it.

How did Ta Julián appear in my life?

The first time Ta Julián appeared to me wasn't in a dream, but at a spiritual inquiry Mass. I wasn't expecting it. He manifested himself with force, with presence. Then he appeared again at other Masses, always leaving signs.

At first I didn't take it into account, thinking it was a passing energy... until one day, in a coffin for the dead, it arrived without warning.

From then on, his presence grew stronger. He appeared in my house, in my bedroom. One day, I even felt him very close between my husband and me. I clearly felt his energy. His arrival was very intense. It wasn't fear I felt; it was a mixture of bewilderment, respect, and deep connection.

Over time, that intensity softened, but he didn't leave. I just learned to live with his energy, to recognize it, and to receive his guidance.

Even today, when Ta Julián wants to speak out loud, I smell a very strong scent of sweat on my left armpit. And I know: it's him, telling me he's there, that he needs or wants to tell me something.

The day Ta Julián revealed himself to me in a dream

One of the most powerful apparitions was in a dream. I saw him running through the thick woods, fleeing from a group of men with dogs.

I remember him undressing and laughing, saying, "That way they won't smell me." That laugh is still etched in my memory. It wasn't fear he conveyed, it was pure cunning. Over time, I understood this wasn't just any old dream. He was coming to me to stay.

Their habits, what they like and their energy

Ta' Julián appears to me as a strong man, with curly hair, determined eyes, and clothing adapted to the mountains. Dark green always predominates in his presence, a color that speaks of nature, earth, and resilience.

He loves honey and orange brandy, strong coffee, sugarcane, and chewing tobacco leaves. He also smokes a lot, prepares his own cigars, and works deeply with plants, especially the plant called itamorreal, which he used to pass over the eyes as an act of spiritual vision and protection.

He wears a green scarf tied around his neck, a symbol of his strength and protection. If you promise him something, I suggest you pay as soon as you see the effect. He's a spirit who doesn't forget, and what's fair to him is fair to you.

A jealous, wise and faithful spirit

Ta' Julián didn't come into my life easily. It wasn't one dream after another. It was a long process, with many masses of knowledge, hearing whispers, sensing apparitions, experiencing sensations I can't explain in words.

I clearly remember the day he shared with me a part of his most painful story. During a rebellion, he was caught in fire and burned on the left side of his face. When he revealed it to me, I felt an inexplicable burning sensation on that same side of my face. It was his way of telling me: “This is my truth. This is my story.”

At first, he was very jealous of me. He wouldn't leave me alone. He wanted me to hear him, to feel him, to recognize him as the guardian he's always been for me. And I succeeded. Today I can say that he's one of the most important spiritual pillars on my path.

What I have learned from him

With Ta' Julián, I've learned the value of resilience, the wisdom born from pain, and the connection with the earth and nature. He has taught me to be justifiably suspicious, to observe before acting, and to never give in to anything or anyone.

This spiritual world is vast, and even though I've been exploring it for years, I still feel like I've only discovered a portion of it. But I know that, with him by my side, I'm not alone.
