Whistle with Eleguá at home. Why not do it?

Whistling Eleguá

Welcome back to another interesting article that raises many doubts and comments. Today we are going to explore why we should not whistle when we are in the presence of the Eshú-Elegguá performance at home.

We tell you the story behind this powerful belief and the reasons to avoid it if we are religious or if we visit houses where Eleggua lives.

Why a Simple Whistle Can Be Negative?

Elegguá is an Orisha who opens and closes paths, the owner of our destinies. He is a warrior, but he is also playful.

Since he is the one who decides our luck and fortune, angering him can close the astral of happiness, plunging us into an unhappy existence, so we must be careful and know what he likes and what he doesn't. However, if Elegguá is happy and we follow the teachings of Osha-Ifá he will open the doors to good fortune for us.

Importance of Not Whistling at Home to keep Elegguá happy

When a devotee of the Osha Rule (Santeria) faces constant problems and bad luck, he or she must reflect on how he or she may have disappointed or offended Elegguá.

Asking for forgiveness through rituals can help improve circumstances, but it is always better to consult, for example, to see how to please him and get him back on our side.

Why Should You Not Whistle or Whistle?

In Cuba we all know that where there is an Eleggua one should not whistle or whistle because this could distract the little orisha and confuse him, and, therefore, neglect his functions of protecting the home and family.

But there are many other reasons why it is best to avoid it. For example:

  • Call him for no reason: Whistling without a valid or important reason can anger Elegguá, who is always on guard for when we really need him.
  • Distraction at Home: Whistling inside the house can not only make him angry, but also distract him from his protective duties. Let's remember that Elegguá is like a playful child, easy to distract.
  • Attracts Negative Consequences: Whistling can attract evil spirits, causing you to see unwanted things and they may even attack you.
  • Bad Luck and Disasters: It is said that Eshú and Elegguá can leave home, causing disasters and bad luck.
  • Away Good Energies: Whistling not only attracts bad energy, but it also blocks your spirituality, creating a barrier around it.

The Yoruba Legend: Pataki of Elegguá and the Whistle

One day, Orunmila tells Elegguá: "I will hide in the mountains and whistle for you to find me." Elegguá asks what he will gain from this, and Orunmila promises to give him Ifá if he finds him.

Orunmila hides behind a banana plantation and begins to whistle. Elegguá searches for a long time and gets angry when he doesn't find it.

Later, Shangó passes by, sees Elegguá upset and asks him what's going on. Shangó suggests that they stand back to back to cover more ground. When Orunmila whistles again, Shangó hears him and finds him. Thus, Orunmila must do Ifá to both Elegguá and Shangó.

Keep Eleggua happy and your paths will be open

In conclusion, it is important not to disturb Elegguá in any way and to deeply respect him in our Yoruba religion. Respect is essential to maintain harmony and good fortune in our lives.

And you, what else do you know about why Elegguá doesn't like being whistled at? Blessings to you. A hug.
